The M4 medium tank is a tank developed and manufactured by the United States during World War II. Commonly known as Sherman or Sherman, this name was given by the British army and originated from William Tecumseh Sherman, the general of the Union Army in the American Civil War. The American M4 medium tank was a famous tank in the middle and late stages of World War II. It was also the tank with the largest production volume during World War II. The total production volume reached 49,234 units, which was more than the Soviet T-34 tank. In the tank battles in the late World War II, the M4 tank played a major role and thus occupied an important position in the history of world tank development.
