Yamato Battleship (Japanese: やまと, English: Yamato, Chinese: Yamato Battleship) is the first Yamato-class battleship built by the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II. It is the largest battleship in human history and was once known as " The World’s First Battleship” and “The Savior of the Japanese Empire”.
On April 7, 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa, the Yamato was sunk by U.S. aircraft 50 nautical miles southwest of Kyushu, Japan, and became cannon fodder for Japan's militaristic special attack spirit. The sinking of the Yamato also announced the complete end of the era of large ships and cannons.
